500 hPa

  • Cold air exists at the upper layer. Strong vorticity almost created the cutoff low.

  • The low pressure brought the cold core together.

  • The temperature is about -15℃ at 500hPa. This is not so strong, but kind of a strong cold air.

  • Cold advection exists toward the Korean peninsula.

  • Trough exists with the cold core that deeply comes down toward the Korean peninsula.

  • Above the Korean peninsula, 12℃ temperature line passes.

  • The temperature difference between 500hPa and 850hPa is about 27℃, which is very huge.

Surface

  • The Korean peninsula is located at the east part of the trough. Therefore, strong updraft caused by low pressure can exist.

  • The enterance of upper jetstream is right above the Korean peninsula. This causes strong vertical wind shear.

  • The temperature of surface is about 20℃, and the temperature difference between the surface and 500hPa is more than 35℃, which is very huge.

  • Daegu, North Gyeongsang Province, from 15:3 to 15:10.
